Bio
My work is rooted in (un)learning what it means to look after oneself and each other in equitable and inclusive ways. My experience includes over 35 years of clinical and hospital administrative roles with professional health, mental health and addiction services. Recently, I retired as the Director of Clinical Services at the Ontario Medical Association's Physician Health Program (PHP) after serving the PHP for over 20 years. As a consultant, I have worked with numerous provincial and national safety-sensitive organizations (judicial, health, transportation) on sustaining professional health, including interpersonal effectiveness during high-stress conditions. This work includes co-developing several peer support teams during the past thirty years. I am a member of the Advisory Board for the Mindfulness in Medicine Program at the University of Rochester.
My service to others increasingly involves restorative justice practices and coaching through a deep diversity lens. This work grew from continuing professional education through Alder's coaching program, a UK course on coaching with a social justice lens, Anima's Inclusive Leadership program and the University of San Diego's Center for Restorative Justice. As a writer, I co-authored the book In the Line of Fire: Traumatic Stress in the Emergency Services, published by Oxford University Press. I am the grateful son of parents, post-war immigrants to Canada, a husband, dad, papa, brother and uncle, and I feel joy whenever hiking with the family retriever. I welcome a conversation on how coaching may serve you and your goals and aspirations.
